Many times the administrative assistant position is a good way into an organization and what a great training ground to know an organizations inner workings than in this profession. I think many university students are seeing the value in having this kind of training. So much is expected of executives these days.
If they are a team player then that filters down to the staff, but if they are the King of the Hill, then that also starts to filter down and people start to feel more important than they should and a lot of power struggles start happening and back-biting. Be a team player. Having the right people in the right job is a good combination and makes for a productive team. Start yesterday and be the most improved worker on the team and show you have the qualities they are looking for. Dont try and hide and stay below the radar. You want to be seen as someone who can work with others.
If you keep telling yourself you cant do it, then of course you wont be able to, but if you say I dont know if I can, but I am going to try anyway, or I know I can do that because it was what I was trained for and then go ahead and do it, it will open all kinds of doors for you. (Or This is the time you need a lot of positive self talk.
I mentioned this to our team of admins at one of our meetings so when one of my co-workers found out how to do something they thought to share it with the team. Share any special training you have received with others in the office or online. Encourage sharing tips and tricks among the admins in your office.
There is usually an answer if you look for it or speak to others on your team or in your network of acquaintances. Sometimes deadlines are exaggerated and if you talk to your boss you may find that the real deadline is further out, but if it cant be moved, why not look to your team members for help? P.S.
