I often find myself pulled in too many directions, reacting to phone calls, email and other stuff that pops up. Even microbusiness owners can benefit from an intern or temp. I used to try and squeeze them in between phone calls, emails and posting on Facebook, but there were days when I’d leave my office without accomplishing anything.

1) Do try the temp agencies. When on a temp job, work as if you are on probation all the time. Don't text or be on a cell phone while in the waiting room. When you go for an interview you have to keep in mind that they really do want to hire someone, but you have to make it worth their while to hire you.
I temped here and there for a year. Finally, I got a job interview through the temp agency for a one-year contract. I finally got a phone call to say they wanted to hire me and could I start in a few weeks? I had worked for a lawyer while living in Northern Alberta and knew I didn’t want to do that again.
To make matters worse, you’re also illuminating, heating, and cooling the space held by inanimate objects–and that doesn’t mean clueless temps. The staffing agent asked if I was open to temp to perm, even though the position was for a full time EA, he feels the CEO may need time to see if it is a good fit. Create an office bible In case you get sick, go on vacation, or get hit by a bus, it’s always good to have an office bible so your temp or co-worker can have info at their fingertips when needed. Use your cell phone alarm Chances are, you use your calendar to remind you about meetings and any important events.
The same theory applies when you’re temping too, or even contracting as a minute taker – find someone on that team that you can check things with so that you’re always showing yourself up as the most knowledgeable and professional minute taker going around.
And I started in the company as a temp worker in 2004. It was one of my first jobs out of college actually and I started answering phone calls for the call center so that’s where my history with Zappos started. They’re taking more phone calls so they’re getting more and more practice and getting more used to doing that full time.
It was for catered food at a place that did not take payments over the phone with a credit card. Sometimes companies don’t validate for parking especially if you are doing testing at a temp agency and are there for a few hours. Whenever you interview for a job, there’s at least 2-3 interviews if not more.
Try to set up the communication of the office so your boss checks their own emails and responds, but you are in charge of all the mtg coordination, phones, and anything that happens in the office. You answer the phone, book travel, offer beverages to guests, book meetings, prepare the conference room, order food, etc.
Other jobs, because they were temp to full time, I didn’t even have the benefits of paid vacation time or paid sick days for almost a year. It always perplexes me when small companies do not hire a temp or have in mind another staff person to fill in for the admin or EA to go on a vacation or call in sick.
3) Work with temping and recruiting agencies – all of them When you are looking for a job, contact every temp and recruiting agency in town. This reference could be in the form of 3 sentences on LinkedIn, a recommendation letter, or to get their personal email and cell phone number (in case they leave the company).

EA work is typically admin work - phones, travels, calendars, expense reports, mtgs/luncheons, etc. The amount of skill, pressure, stress, and problem solving differs at each of those levels. So I’m not exactly sure what other high level tasks/responsibilities you may be missing out on when you have to manage the office.
We hired a temp to do some simple clerical work for us, but realized once she left, that the work was inadequate and there were spelling mistakes along with the mail merge list not being correct, that we supplied to her. Heres an example of what happened with me.
