Call them sample projects, test projects, or anything else you like…as a professional virtual assistant, should you do them if asked by a potential client? It’s also because there isn’t any universe in which professionals are asked for a “test” or “sample” of the work being requested. My opinion is a big, fat nope. So, be confident.

Of course, you have to present yourself well, answer the interview questions properly, have the skills and knowledge of the position you are applying for and a few other factors that help you get the job. Just like handing out free samples of your latest candy or cookie.
Free samples, yes. Then, text information can be in the form of web pages/blog posts, PDF ebooks, forum posts, wikis, etc. It can be just a “regular&# email or it can be a PDF (I tried to one like that and couldn’t keep on schedule and canned it—I’m considering private feed aggregation instead).
