CNBC's The Rise of the SuperTemp in the C Suite is another version of the HBR article focused on the increasing use of executive temps. The demand for executive temps is growing and companies are responding. independent workers could be considered Super Temps. independent workers could be considered Super Temps.
Companies are hedging their bets by hiring temps instead a steady workforce. The long term prediction is that a decade from now the retirement of the baby boomers could cause labor shortages which again lead to opportunities. Since most jobs come through networking therefore more and more networking is the answer.
In London, I met my husband-to-be (now ex) and I ended up retiring and moving to the Caribbean for 5 years. I worked and temped at various places in general administrator/secretarial roles until I found a job where I really felt I could make a difference. I got married, moved countries (with a cat) and had a baby in 9 months!
This growing ability to network, collaborate and socialize is making independent work more attractive, and 2012 will see the trend towards independent work continue to grow. Most of these older workers will choose independence because of the stimulation, freedom and flexibility it provides.
