Last weekend, the keyboard lights went out. The ALT works the same way as the ALT key on your computer keyboard. It makes the alternate numbers and characters on the keyboard available. As you can imagine, I couldn’t use the keyboard at night. Read on, you may find a surprise. I was a bit frustrated. Time will tell.

I enjoyed having a full QWERTY keyboard without all of the keys, in such compact form factor. However, neither the HTC myTouch nor the Samsung Behold 2 have a keyboard. A keyboard is a necessity for me, especially given that I have big thumbs and I like the tactile feel of keys. These were all multi-touch devices.

I was considering one of the Android phones and the Motorola CLIQ has stood out given the tight integration with Google Apps and social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook. KEYBOARD: I always wanted a physical keyboard. I recently wrote a post about it, Blackberry Pearl Flip Makes me Flip. DROID has it. DISPLAY: 4.7"

Just like Twitter, everyone on your team has a unique username prepended by the @ sign. Keyboard Shortcuts. Keyboard shortcuts are a great way to increase productivity and quickly navigate and interact with any application. Slack has a great set of keyboard shortcuts for navigation, messages and more.

I connected a Bluetooth keyboard, downloaded some new apps, and it mostly worked for drafting blog posts, rough drafts, and replying to emails. I couldn’t search online nearly as quickly, I lacked the efficiency of keyboard shortcuts, and my phone was starting to lag. But then my system sagged.

For each step of my process, I have a keyboard shortcut such as CTRL-1, CTRL-2 , CTRL-3, etc. For work, I use Outlook.

Moving users from one account to another was as seamless as two mouse clicks (even better with a nice new Keyboard Maestro macro as well!). Adding my Twitter account was an easy experience and watching all of my contacts fill up there, with phone number fields filled in was great to see.

Typing addresses is easy with both the on-screen and the slide-out keyboard. What I Like So Far With that said, there’s still a lot I like about the device. I love the fact that I have a full browser. I love the zoom as well as full-page view capabilities too. As much as I find issues with the applications, I love the Android Market.

They include Better Keyboard, Math Works, Brain Genius, DroidLive, Pandora, Movies, Where!, Plainly, it has a vertical, horizontal and top level bubble to help you level the picture or shelf you’re hanging in grandma’s room! That’s it for now. There are a lot more apps that I’ve downloaded and I’m test-driving.

What’s worse is that as the keyboard is getting more use, it’s not as sensitive. So, browsing through that list typing one character at a time is not that pleasant. There’s a big lag between what I type and what shows up on the screen. So, I have to very distinctly press each character.

A change of pace and scenery can do wonders, and I have found that simply by walking away that I have a renewed sense of vigor when I return to the keyboard. Often I’ll do the dishes or tidy up around the house in order to get my mind in a place where it can start to tackle the work challenges once again.

During those times the only inbox I check regularly (apart from my Twitter stream), is my mail inbox. Mobile Capturing Devices I own an iPhone and I use it.
