A friend of mine got her job via a Facebook status update when she ranted "I need a job!" It has paid off where I got a phone call or an interview.

It was for catered food at a place that did not take payments over the phone with a credit card. Have money for job hunting and working. Whenever you interview for a job, there’s at least 2-3 interviews if not more. Sometimes you have to spend money to make money.

So be warned - often unfairly, the first job you take out of college becomes your specialty. After I was laid off I of course had to go look for another job. I was called in for an interview at an agency and it was the assistant that did all the vetting of the candidates. In hindsight, there was fault in my thinking.

Any time you interview where this situation occurs you are allowed to ask very politely. I’ve known assistants to turn down jobs once they saw their desk and where they would sit - old furniture, very darkly lit, they’d have to pay for their own parking, very low morale or poor employee engagement - no coffee, no break room, etc.
