This leads to gossip and politics, often just below the surface of what looks like a happy and positive culture. The Friend’s gift. I was fortunate enough to have a mentor do that for me at a critical moment in my career. The Fighter’s gift. The best gift you can give a Fighter is a strong accountability partner.
Find a mentor. I’m working on taking time off for visits, but in the meantime I’ll reconnect the old-fashioned way by writing, sending cards throughout the year; little gifts the family might enjoy, too. Ask questions of mentors and peers. Take stock and charge forward. Are any of those battles worth continuing? Get a leg up.
Just like nail biting or gossip, whining is a bad habit - nothing more - and all bad habits can be broken. I freely provide my ability where she is not so gifted so that she can grow a business borne from her heart. This fall, I will branch out in a new way: investing time mentoring college-age adults through my church.
