Let me give you some pointers here, but please remember you can always do more on the cost-cutting front in any small business and start-up business, like SOHO-, SME, SMB-, Micro-, Lifestyle-, Home-, DIY-, Hobby-, Boomer- or Personal business, like professional, contractors, freelancer, self-employed, sole-trader and virtual assistants.
If the supplier knows you are ready to buy for the right price they will cut you a deal. Promise to buy from one supplier for better payment terms, like 60 or 90 days. Getting a better price is especially easy to do right now, since suppliers are tripping over themselves to get business. Get better payment terms by negotiation.
This will allow you to stay in close touch with your supplier, and get real time up-dates and feed-back – there are other benefits too. If it becomes a distraction, deal with it immediately, if need be change supplier. Anything else could and probably should be outsourced ( see: outsourcing options for small business ).

Is a lack of finance not due to poor planning, uncontrolled growth or a poor business? As you suggested, they fail often blame a lack of finance for their failure. this a financ eproblem.

Even if you have staff – outsourced of employed – doing your bookkeeping and organize the payments for you, you need to make the decisions of when your suppliers get paid, so you can control your cash-flow.
