Do you get caught up in BSOs? BSOs are "Bright Shiny Objects" -- those things that easily catch your attention and steal your focus. You spend time there, but you know that you should not be spending your time on them. They can be pretty and enticing, but they may not really be driving your business as much as they should to deserve your attention. How do you make sure that what you are working on is the right thing?
This article is the third in a 10-part series on the topic of overcoming career-limiting habits. Let me be honest: I’ve been putting off writing this article for a few days. Since we’re looking at the career-limiting habit of procrastination, I feel it’s appropriate that you know this. And let me also say that I don’t whole-heartedly think procrastination is a “bad” thing.

I’ve had a lot of small business people who need help with their business tell me that my rates were too high. Heck, I’ve even had a person or two tell me I was crazy to charge that much when anyone can go to one of the freelance websites and find an army of virtual assistants charging much, much less. They have a right to their opinion of course, but it’s funny how many of those same people are contacting me again a few months later with tales of virtual assistant collaborations gone bad.
The other day I was working with a new strategy client and we were reviewing her client sales and communication processes. When I asked her what she did to manage all of her client communications she showed me a pile of sticky notes on her desk. She shared that she was often forgetting important followups and conversations that she had because they would get lost in the piles. Sound familiar?

Erich Segal gave us the classic line, “Love means never having to say you’re sorry.&# However, just because you love your doesn’t mean you never have to say you’re sorry. I recently posted on a study we did comparing the demographic and motivational differences between traditional small business owners and high growth-entrepreneurs. Another part of that study looked at the competitiveness and success differences between different types of small business. Our focus was to better understand how women and minority owned small businesses compared with small businesses owned by white men. We also looked at how education correlated with small busin

I’m not a huge fan of Gmail and only use it when I’m travelling (I much prefer Outlook to run my business), but these past two weeks I’ve had to rely on Gmail a lot as I’m back in the UK due to a family emergency. So, along with that has come some additional learning … not a bad thing though, eh? One of the ‘problems’ I found in working with Gmail is that I want to be able to quickly and easily view my unread emails.

To judge individuals before understanding them is a form of human rejection and feeds upon itself. -- Stephen Covey. I tend to do a lot of people watching, and what I call "people listening." Some might call it eaves dropping. for me, there's a difference. Eavesdropping is what you do when you're being a Nosey Nellie.
