The pandemic-driven seismic shift to remote led to continued strong growth in the number of American digital nomads in 2021. The MBO Partners 2021 State of Independence research study found that 15.5 million American workers currently describe themselves as digital nomads, increasing 42% from 2020 and 112% from the pre-pandemic year 2019 (click on the study chart below to enlarge). The main reason for the growth is that traditional job holders have been unleashed from their offices and ma
Strengthening your emotional resilience takes practice. That’s because mental fortitude—the ability to bounce back from adversity—isn’t necessarily innate. Circumstances shape how we react to adversity. Over time, we can pick up bad practices that drain us of our strength and energy. Thankfully, we can break some of these bad habits with positive routines.

I once conducted an experiment for SUCCESS magazine about getting up early. Every day for a month, I woke up at 4:30 a.m. intent to spend the “extra” time working on something I’ve always wanted to do but never had time for. I’ve done many experiential and/or stunt stories; this one was the worst, by far. I never got used to getting up at 4:30 a.m. Nor did I get used to going to bed at 8:30 p.m.
Feeling undervalued and how to make a change One of the many challenges that I often hear from Assistants is that their Executives and the wider organisation does not understand the role and the work that Assistants undertake. You can’t possibly give of yourself to everyone. So play to the strong (those who are ready and able to make use of what you have to offer), not the weak (those who seem to need what you offer, but aren’t really ready to accept what you can do for them or make good use of it). By doing so, you’ll grow faster, and you’ll attract more of what and who you desire and less of who/what are a waste of your time and energy.
If I had a dime for every time someone complained that people won’t pay their rates, I’d be rich. Well, not rich exactly, but I’d have a few bucks for Starbucks instead of Dunkin’ Donuts. What do I tell them? The truth about setting affordable rates. I tell them it’s because they are focusing on the money. Never, ever focus on the money. The truth is that people will pay what you’re charging and more to get what they want.

How to keep emotions under control in confrontational situations While working as an Assistant and in the early days of running Practically Perfect PA, if I could avoid confrontation, I would. It didn't serve me well. Why? Because when I did have to speak to someone about a difficult subject, [.].
Not long ago, when I was somewhere in my mid-40s, I drove to Cambridge, Massachusetts, from Cape Cod and parked my car in a garage. I was scheduled to give a talk a couple of blocks away and had hoped to arrive earlier. Normally I take a photo of the floor number or the row letter whenever I park in a garage. But worried I was late, I raced out of there without getting a photo and, worse, without consciously registering where I had parked.
Never spin a story. Spinning is absolutely the same as lying. Yet, it’s not untruthful to uncover and expose the other side of, well, anything. It’s the classic glass half empty or glass half full analogy; the glass may be half empty (truth), but it’s equally true to say that the glass is half full. And it’s not spinning to share the truth that’s more in alignment with who you are as a human.

A business strategy is a company’s roadmap for achieving its market goals. It introduces a set of principles that shape a company’s priorities, decisions, and actions. Simply put, it outlines how your business will compete with a product or a service in a particular market. It is not, however, the actual tactics you will leverage to execute your business strategy.

Good Anxiety is the title of the new book from NYU neuroscientist Wendy Suzuki PhD — but it’s one that will surprise those of us who think of anxiety as strictly bad news. However, through her work, Suzuki has come to find, as she writes, that “anxiety can shift from something we try to avoid and get rid of to something that is both informative and beneficial.”.
In your virtual assistance practice, having an intake process which, in part shares how you work, and that also collects information about the client (contacts, preferences, systems, etc.) so that you can provide quality care is smart to have. Recently, I heard from a VA who said her new client refused to complete the part of the intake that would have given the VA important information needed to do some of the work she was going to be doing.
