If you’re someone who has done business the traditional way for years you may not be able to fathom the idea of an office that doesn’t rely on the phone to do business. The truth is, while a well-planned and scheduled phone call is still a relevant business tool, a lot of time is wasted on the phone that could be better spent.
As an assistant I often felt that keeping the office green was mainly my responsibility, so much so that during my time in one company I did email my colleagues a list of things that would help them to do their bit for the environment. Recycle scrap paper for notes / doodling etc. Recycle any waste paper using the bins provided.

The college application took way longer than expected – all day to be exact – so all you got around to doing after that was answering some emails and taking out the trash. One hour processing emails.
You thought you heard the phone ring this morning but you aren’t sure. Check your email. Doodle on a note pad. Doodling doesn’t work with a pen because you can’t erase mistakes. Look at your email. Read that long chain email someone forwarded to you. Send an email to your client.
Dispatch: My email app of choice, even though it''s iOS only. I don''t want to spend too much time in email, and Dispatch gives me the ability to get those emails that need deferring to the right app (Evernote for ideas and OmniFocus or Asana for tasks). Its actionable qualities land it in my dock.
Email all 6 guest teachers inviting them to the project with instructions and our format for teaching. Put it up on social media and make it a part of your weekly email newsletter. Other tasks like emailing, phone calls, research, and social media can be done at a time of day when you are not in full form. Stay on task.
