It’s not unheard of that while a CEO is about to retire they start looking about 2-5 years prior to their exit. State that on your resume, in your cover letter, over the phone, and don’t tell anyone at work. I agree that is a very long time. Since he was the CEO, the perfect fit is of the utmost importance.

Whether based on your cover letter or resume, recruiters only take 6 seconds to see if you are match. What job title or job description do you want to have right before you retire and then figure out a game plan and work backwards on how you want to get there. 1) Do you have the admin skills to be an EA?

I didn't love kow-towing to the age haters, but I also need to work, and let's face it, I am nowhere near ready to retire! I touched on my experience instead, using terms such as 'extensive' or 'seasoned.' This approach can take up to an hour per application session, but the return on your time investment could be that next great role.
