Back in November I had the pleasure of speaking to 50 assistants who were attending a networking event organised by ACE (Assistant Community EMEA), an internal networking group set up by assistants at BlackRock. I was asked to speak about networking and how beneficial it is for assistants.
Meanwhile, coworking companies and centers are quietly and confidently offering solutions amid chaos — and industry growth shows its working. . The real estate industry recognizes that coworking spaces have the potential to become game changers in terms of the networking opportunities they can offer professionals from diverse industries. .
The moral of the story is that assistants have a huge amount of skills and can add value in a number of areas within the workplace, we just need to have the confidence to promote ourselves. During the conference, we will have a session on confidence in the workplace, but let’s look at areas assistants can add value.
Over the last few years there are plenty more online communities and in more recent times we have taken networking to a whole new level with local networks, organised by assistants, springing up all over the place. Meeting other assistants who work near by, who share the same suppliers, hotels, restaurants etc. It is brilliant!

I would go so far as to say I felt a bit resentful when colleagues were pulling out business cards in meetings or during networking events and I wouldn’t have anything to hand over to my new contact.
