1) Do try the temp agencies. When on a temp job, work as if you are on probation all the time. 3) Find someone to mentor you. This is another area your mentor can help you. 5) Do research about each company you are applying for. Your question could be What opportunities does this company have for growth?

I was out of work, temping here and there for a year. Being a member is not only a great place for networking, but for mentoring and learning of jobs in your area. Don’t underestimate the value of temping. Working for a temp agency can either land you a full-time job or help to keep you employed while you are looking.

We are after all brand ambassadors for our bosses, our company, ourselves and ultimately our profession. This would also help with their induction process and ideally a ‘buddy cover’ or mentor could be assigned. PA retention rates will be at an all time high and this will remove company expenditure on temps.

You have to show your executive and business owner how investing in your development will benefit them or the company. All the more reason you have to show your executive the benefits you will drive; the benefits your executive will derive from sending you and how the company will benefit. It can be a very hard sell.
