If you are booking a meeting for yourself, for others or both, give everyone ample time to respond to the meeting and provide a reminder (theres a check box for this in the meeting set up page) of at least 15 minutes. A day or two before the task is due is usually sufficient.

When booking meetings ownership of the meeting has to be established. Is the boardroom booked? Whose responsibility is it anyway?

How many times I have booked a meeting thinking the day was free, only to notice later that an all-day event was put in unnoticed at the top. I put travel in red and action reminders in yellow, but that is our own system and it works for us. There is a colour for travel, business, personal, etc., Another one I never use.
