Just last week I was reminded how brilliant PAs are at using networks to get stuff done. It showed me how powerful assistants can be when they tap into their networks. We don’t have the answers to everything (although often our organisations think that we do!) Get to know your network. Don’t be shy!
You might not think so but assistants deal with suppliers on a a regular basis. From hotels to stationery manufacturers, car hire companies and venues for events we are constantly procuring suppliers. It is essential that we know how to procure great suppliers and build effective relationship which benefit our organisation.

Over the last few years there are plenty more online communities and in more recent times we have taken networking to a whole new level with local networks, organised by assistants, springing up all over the place. There were many free training sessions for assistants to attend and the exhibitors were all relevant suppliers to the industry which again is not always the case with these types of events! It was brilliant to have a little networking objective for the show because like everyone else I don’t find networking all that easy!
We used this session as a bit of a networking / ice breaker. Throughout the day our delegates had meetings with our exhibitors who represented a variety of suppliers within the travel industry. During lunch we made sure that everyone had some time to network and chat. I hope those that came along enjoyed it too.
