I worked at the ICAEW for 3 and a half years and in that time was promoted to an Account Manager where I looked after 12 Committees and supervised one administrator. After discussing this with my Manager I attended an assertiveness course and gain the training I needed to deal with them. I find it hard to say no.

Sure, it’s important to stand up for yourself and be assertive, but you still have to be respectful and professional and well…nice. You: a) Recommend him for a promotion so he can move to a different department. You’re leading the committee to plan a company party and the group can’t decide on a theme.

We may feel under-appreciated, wish our job was more challenging, or have lost out on a promotion. Ask to join or form a workplace committee. There’s little variation in the landscape unless you want to go downhill or make the effort to move upward. The same is true for career plateaus. It’s Become Routine; I Could Do this in My Sleep.
