I have always written articles, from my time in grade school, right on through College. Even though the articles were on specific topics, I could take one or up to three sentences from one article and morph it into another article on a different topic. I acquired many articles to have at my disposal doing this.
An article buried in a months-old magazine is not accessible to you and therefore irrelevant. The rule of thumb is to shred anything with personal information such as account numbers, medical and employment info, ATM slips and travel itineraries. You can download PDF copies and keep them on your computer. Shred every day.
